Frutti di Bosco is Italian for "Fruit of the Woods."
They mean blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, currents, etc. and make
wonderful fruit dishes, desserts, and gelato they call Frutti di Bosco.
A more American translation might be "those crazies living in
the woods." That's us!
Who would leave a two story, four bedroom, two and a half bath, large kitchen/TV
room, large living/dining room, huge family room, two car with work room
breezeway-attached garage, full attic, full basement, central hall Colonial on
two wooded suburban acres in Acton, MA?
We – the Frutti di Bosco –
would! It's our favorite flavor!
We now have a two story, two bedroom, one and a half bath, medium-sized
kitchen/living/dining/family room, no garage, rustic breezeway-attached "cabin",
small attic, no basement, Cape on fifteen and a half wooded rural acres still in
Acton, MA. We traded house size for property size.
Oh, yes. The closest utilities are about a half mile away. No feeds for
electricity, telephone, cable, gas, water, sewage. We have an array of solar
cells that charge an array of lead acid batteries that drive an inverter that
produce enough electricity for simple household items such as the well pump,
lights, etc. The LP gas tank does the house heat stove, hot water, dryer, range, refrigerator, and
generator. The generator is turned on for the clothes washer, dryer motor,
dishwasher, and charging the batteries when the sun isn't around enough. Wood
does the heat in the Cabin. Our telephone numbers are our cell phone numbers. It's a private,
dirt road, not plowed by the town.
We love it.
